Interesting Facts about Larkspurs

Larkspurs are tall flowering plants that have their name because they look like the back of a lark’s claw. They can grow to 72 inches and grow in white, pink, purple, blue, yellow and red. Larkspurs grow naturally in Europe, but they have been transplanted to other countries. The flowers on a larkspur are tiny blooms that curl at the end. The flowers grow in a tight row up the stem. Larkspurs have tiny sacs of nectar that attract hummingbirds and bees. The plant will only live 2 to 3 years and doesn’t like extreme temperature changes.

Activity: Create a cute larkspur bouquet with pipe cleaners and triangle plastic beads. Find some cheap plastic vases at a discount store and decide how many “stems” will be needed to make a full bouquet. Then knot the pipe cleaner at the top and string the beads on to it. Make sure the beads are facing the same direction and locking into place as you go. When you get halfway down, then plop the “flower” into the vase. Keep going until you have a full arrangement.
