The musical artists were created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. for a record in 1958. Bagdasarian’s stage name was David Seville, portraying an adoptive father of the chipmunks. The American production was originally named David Seville and the Chipmunks, portraying clothed rodents on the album cover. The music band extended their media influence into television cartoons as humanoid rodents.
