How to Draw a Rhino - Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Let's draw a rhino! Trace a squiggly line across the page for the back. Make sure the lines start to come down.

Step 2: From there, tracing a squiggly oval shape for the head, your rhino looks like it is leaning down for water! Add a line for the mouth.

Step 3: Trace a large triangle shape at the front of the head and a small triangle at the top of the head for horns.

Step 4: Color in an oval and trace two lines, one above and one below for baggy eyes.

Step 5: From there, trace a short line across for the neck, then draw a short, stumpy leg, making it wide at the top but smaller at the bottom.

Step 6: The second front leg is really hiding behind the first, so trace thin lines along the outside of your first leg.

Step 7: Draw a curbed line across the bottom of your rhino for the belly.

Step 8: Draw the first hind leg by tracing a simple line at the back of your rhino?his leg is hiding too!

Step 9: Now, trace two long lines, making sure they are squiggly and wide apart for the last thick leg. Trace a thin line right along the leg for the tail. There's your rhino!

Interesting Facts about Rhinos

The rhinoceros’ name, which is usually shortened to rhino, means “nose horn.” There are five species of rhinos. The white rhino and the black rhino are from Africa. The Indian rhino, the Javan rhino, and the Sumatran rhino are from Asia.

  • White rhinos are the second largest land mammal on the planet, behind the elephant.
  • The horn at the tip of the rhino’s nose is made out of the same material as your hair and fingernails. This material is called keratin.
  • Rhinos can weigh more than 2,200 pounds.
  • Rhinos are herbivores, which means they only eat plants.
  • The black and white rhinos have two horns on their head.
  • Rhinos have hooves with three toes.
  • Rhinos can live to be 35 to 40 years old.

Rhinos are one of the most endangered species on the planet. There are about 400 Sumatran rhinos and less than 100 Javan rhinos left in the world. Humans hunt rhinos for their horns. However, some people do not like the practice of hunting for their horns because rhinos use them for self-defense against other animals and predators. In some cultures, people believe that rhino horns can cure fevers, food poisoning, and other illnesses.
